MediaMasters aims to create awareness among children aged 10 to 12 about potential impacts of (digital) media and social media and how to use them responsibly. It also creates opportunities for children to discuss media use with parents and teachers, while having fun. The interactive game challenges players to use and advance their media skills, learning from each other.
They collaborate to solve media-related problems, work on assignments, co-create media content, perform basic coding tasks, discuss media literacy themes and reflect on their own media use. The serious game MediaMasters includes offline and online elements.
The game – which is played in school on a DigiBoard and where pupils and teachers play together – is based on a fictional storyline. When pupils answer questions correctly or perform assignments well, they help the characters achieve their goals. Players are introduced to subjects including social media use, cyberbullying, privacy, robotics, online safety, searches and collaboration, fake news and vlogging. Also, children can continue playing at home and receive bonus points for the extra things they do outside of school. MediaMasters collaborates with a lot of partners, including research institutes, media professionals and broadcasters, cultural institutions, publishers and ICT / telecom companies.
