Description

Bedtime Fairy Tales is a long-term intergenerational project providing the elderly in retirement homes with an opportunity to create a vast collection of audio fairy tales that are freely available to parents with small children on the Lahkonocnice.si website in the form of audio recordings. Parents are able to simply playback the fairy tales on mobile devices uninterrupted even when mobile devices enter sleep mode.

The website cover different themes and topics in more than 100 fairy tales eg. intolerance, emotions, importance of bees.

By creating a brand new collection of contemporary Slovenian audio fairy tales read by seniors, the service aims to fill a niche need of parent, by offering quality emotional and educational content free of charge to all current and future generations of parents and children. To provide quality audio content, pedagogical experts and experts from the SRC SAZU were invited to cooperate in the project, while the quality of interpretation was achieved with help from well-known radio speakers and professional actors, who provided pronunciation and drama classes for the seniors interpreting the texts.

The website allows parents and children to browse the fairy tales collection, get familiar with the storytellers from retirement homes, and the renowned Slovenian authors and illustrators, who create content exclusively for this project.

Unforgettable fairy tales spur children's imaginations, help them to develop empathy, establish self-confidence, and learn about social norms and values. Everyday reading not only helps to strengthen the cognitive abilities of the elderly, but also provides a contact with the youngest ones and their parents through modern technology, re-establishing a feeling of being useful and appreciated.

The Bedtime Fairy Tales have become the most sought-after audio fairy tale collection in Slovenia. From December 2016 till the end of June 2019 there was more than 400.000 playbacks of the fairy tales, demonstrating the high quality and relevancy of the created content.  The digital fairy tale library is a perfect form to connect the key stakeholders of the project – seniors in retirement homes, reconnecting with the outside world through storytelling, and children's parents looking for quality content for their children on-line.
